Governor David Nweze Umahi sworn-in for a second tenure in office.

Governor David Nweze Umahi and Deputy Dr. Kelechi Igwe have been sworn-in for another term of four years in office.

The inauguration ceremony which took place at Pa’ Ngele Oruta Township Stadium was witnessed by a galaxy of personalities from within and outside the state including past and present leaders of the State, heads of security agencies, youth organization, and market women.

Governor David Nweze Umahi during his inaugural address announced the dissolution of the state Executive council including the Secretary to the State Government and other principal officers of government with the exception of the Senior Special Assistant on Religious and Welfare Matters, Very Rev. Father Abraham Nwali.

The Accountant General of the State, Dr. Queen Agwu was also removed from office and replaced with Mrs. Christiana Ukwuta who until her appointment was the State sub-Treasurer as the Acting Accountant General.

The Governor said the next four years of his administration would not only be used to consolidate on the achievements of his first tenure but to also expand his transformational agenda to the entire state especially the rural areas.

He expressed resolve to construct and complete the 198 kilometers of Abakaliki ring road and other key projects with special emphasis on building the best Teaching Hospital, Olympic stadium, Airport and construction of eight new flyovers in strategic locations within the state as well as internal roads in the thirteen local government areas.

Apart from focusing on some key sectors like health, education, empowerment, industrialization and creation of jobs, workers welfare would also engage government’s desired attention with special priority to the implementation of the thirty thousand naira new national minimum wage for Ebonyi workers.

The Governor announced the revocation of the purpose use of Abakpa main market, the building material market and the aluminum markets.

According to him, the Abakpa Main Market would be renovated and redesignated as Ebonyi Food and Vegetable Market while the building material and Aluminum markets are to be reconstructed and put to use as social motor parts assuring that those who may be affected by the policy would be assisted with soft loans to move into the remodeled international market.

Also to be assisted are the indigenes of Agbaja, Inyimagu and Igbeagu communities displaced at the centenary city, the Izo and Amaeze communities in Ezzillo to enable them to resettle.

The chairman inauguration central planning committee and national vice chairman of PDP, Chief Austine Umahi stated that Ebonyi people were so proud of the governor for his superlative leadership that brought un-precedential transformation to the State.

In an interview, the Former Minister of State for Power and Steel chief Goddy Ogbaga stated that the 20 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria has been characterized with freedom and development in all spheres of national life, but suggested a shift in policy direction to arrest youth restiveness and armed banditry in the country.
